W. Kirk Williams joined Baird Hanson Williams LLP in August 2001, based in Boise, Idaho. He became a name partner in 2003. He is a licensed member of the Idaho, Nevada, California, Wyoming and Colorado State Bars with a practice emphasizing land-related and transactional issues for the natural resources industries. He was listed in the International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers under Mining in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Mr. Williams has three decades of legal and practical experience in structuring mining joint venture agreements, complex acquisitions and divestments domestically and internationally; determining title in mining districts and petroleum basins; conducting public lands practice for locatable, leasable, and common variety minerals; negotiating and drafting leases and options for the mining and petroleum industries; and implementing site acquisition programs for the telecommunications industry.

 As Senior Counsel for BHP (now BHP Billiton) based in San Francisco, Mr. Williams represented BHP regarding mining law reform and the 43 CFR 3809 Regulatory Revisions before the U.S. Congress and as part of mineral trade association committees and delegations. Internationally, he was BHP’s primary representative of the legal department for Francophone Africa for five years.

Mr. Williams graduated from the University of Wyoming, School of Law in 1977, after previously obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1972), with an emphasis on advanced economic geology studies.
